1. Baker Book House
   In 1925 fourteen-year-old Herman Baker, with his family, emigrated from the Netherlands to America, traveling by boat to Ellis Island and then by train to Grand Rapids, Michigan.
   
   Culture shock was minimal. More than 75,000 Netherlanders already lived there, Dominie Albertus Van Raalte having led the way to western Michigan with a small band of followers in 1847. Nearby towns bore such names as Zeeland, Holland, and Graafschap.
   
   Shortly after arriving in Grand Rapids, young Herman Baker began working part-time in the bookstore owned by his uncle, Louis Kregel. Here young Baker developed a love for the religious classics, cultivated a knowledge of theology that would rival that of most ministers, and began to dream of beginning a book business of his own.
   
   Just one year after he became a bookseller, Herman Baker became a publisher. In 1940 he published More than Conquerors, a commentary on Revelation previously self-published by his friend, Dr. William Hendriksen. This title proved to be typical of the type of book Baker loved to publish--conservative, scholarly, biblical, timeless. This title is still in print, and continues to sell steadily. Baker has always preferred books with longevity, those that will be reprinted regularly over the years.
   
   In time, Baker would expand its publishing division to include other names like Revell, Brazos Press, Chosen, Bethany House, and most recently, the God's Word translation of the Bible. And after over 70 years, retail division continues to thrive with a full selection of new books, music, gifts, and DVDs, and over 100,000 used and remainder books. We are proud to say that the traditions and vision of Herman Baker are as alive now as they were when he started the bookstore in 1939.
   
   
2. Crossway
   The purpose of Crossway has been, from its founding as a not-for-profit ministry in 1938, to publish gospel-centered, Bible-centered content that will honor our Savior and serve his Church. We seek to help people understand the massive implications of the gospel and the truth of God’s Word, for all of life, for all eternity, and for the glory of God.
   
   Or, as it was written in our 1979 mission statement:
   
   Crossway is a not-for-profit Christian ministry and exists solely for the purpose of proclaiming the gospel through publishing and other means in order, by God’s grace:
   
   
   • To bring men, women, and children to Christ as their Lord and Savior
   • To help individual Christians and the church grow in knowledge and understanding of the Christian life;
   • To bear witness to God’s truth, beauty, and holiness, and to the Lordship of Christ in every area of life; and
   • To glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in every way.
   
   Any surplus that may arise shall be used solely to further the ministry and shall not inure to the benefit of any individual.
   
   
3. InterVarsity Press
   Located in Westmont, Illinois, InterVarsity Press has been publishing thoughtful Christian books for more than 70 years. An extension of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, IVP is a leading Christian publisher with a respected history providing resources that strengthen the church, encourage individuals, and shape the academy.
   
   
4. P&R Publishing
   P&R, which stands for “Presbyterian and Reformed,” is dedicated to publishing excellent books that promote biblical understanding and godly living as summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. Titles on our list range from academic works advancing biblical and theological scholarship to popular books designed to help lay readers grow in Christian thought and service. Our mission is to serve Christ and his church by producing clear, engaging, fresh, and insightful applications of Reformed theology to life.
   
   
5. Westminster John Knox Press (WJK)
   Westminster John Knox Press (WJK) is the academic and trade imprint of the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC). Books and resources published under the WJK imprint cover the spectrum of religious thought and represent the work of scholarly and popular authors of many different religious and theological affiliations. WJK publishes approximately 60 new books and other resources each year and manages a backlist of more than 1,800 titles that are sold throughout the world. Books published specifically for the PC(USA) are published under the Geneva Press imprint.
   
   With a publishing history dating back to 1838, WJK and its predecessors have served scholars, students, clergy, and general readers. 6. The Westminster Theological Journal
   The Westminster Theological Journal (WTJ), published semi-annually, is one of America’s premier conservative theological journals, specializing in all aspects of theology, church history, and biblical interpretation. The journal’s inaugural issue appeared in 1938, making it one of America’s oldest continuous running theological journals. The journal exists to further Reformed theological scholarship and through it to serve the ministers and members of Presbyterian and Reformed churches. Each issue includes a number of scholarly articles and book reviews by seminary faculty, scholars active in their fields, and graduate students.
   
   The journal was “founded upon the conviction that the Holy Scriptures are the word of God and the only infallible rule of faith and practice, and that the system of belief commonly designated the Reformed Faith is the purest and most consistent formulation and expression of the system of truth set forth in the Holy Scriptures” (WTJ, 1938, vol. 1, p.1). The journal's editors are appointed by the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary, and it has the purpose of publishing scholarly work that defends and advances understanding of the Bible's teaching and its implications for the larger world.
